MW2 Remastered was released on PS4 on the 31st of March and will be coming out on the 30th April for PC and Xbox players. In recent Call of Duty news Activision, however, elected to overlook the multiplayer mode, claiming that it will split the fan base too much because ‘so much has changed’. With how far Call of Duty has come since then, it would certainly be no small feat to replicate all the maps with the very different gameplay we have now whilst keeping the nostalgic feel to the game. So, without multiplayer, and the £20 price tag, is Modern Warfare 2 Remastered worth buying?

MW2 Remastered Length

From start to finish the MW2 Remastered Campaign can be completed within four hours. Depending on difficulty, you may find it running for closer to six hours, and if you choose to dive in and complete all the achievements and gather all intel, it may take around eight hours.

Taking the nostalgia away from the debate for a moment, a campaign that can be completed within one to three days, may not justify being worth £20. For double the price, you can get games with storylines that can keep you entertained for months on end, like Skyrim from the Elder Scrolls series, or Red Dead Redemption; albeit with a free roam element being incorporated into both of those. Without the multiplayer mode, the game is very short, so for a stand-alone campaign of up to eight hours, MW2 Remastered may seem over-priced.

The Campaign Quality.

The campaign itself is easily considered as the best campaign withing the Modern Warfare storyline, if not the best Call of Duty campaign of all time. Featuring your favourite characters and protagonists such as Captain Price, Simon “Ghost” Riley, and the rest of Task Force 141, and incredible antagonists and villains like Vladimir Makarov, MW2 boasted an incredible storyline. From monstrous betrayal to political controversy to engaging brotherhood, the storyline is beautifully crafted. It offers a range of stealth missions and full-blown action sequences, plus the most satisfying endings to any campaign that you could find. If you were to purchase any Call of Duty for the campaign alone, MW2 would be your go-to.

Why don’t I just buy the original?

The difference from the original to the remastered version is rather remarkable. The game has gone through a complete remaster, and with a few extra seconds in some of the most iconic scenes, the graphics are much better.

Graphics aren’t the real deal for everyone, but there is no denying that Activision has done a great job in transforming the MW2 campaign into a modern rendition with incredible detail into the surroundings and general warfare visuals. The gameplay is rather similar with a rustic feel to game movement meaning the graphics are the main difference. It is quite spectacular watching that throwing knife hurtle its way towards Captain Shepherd in much higher resolution.

Overall, the Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Campaign is a brilliantly modernised and nostalgia-feeding juxtaposition, and for those passionate Call of Duty fans, the remastered version is a no-brainer. Although the price is steep, MW2 Remastered is definitely worth buying.
