Peter Parker and Miles Morales are limbering up, as Insomniac Games finally gives us a positive update on the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release date. With the 2018 OG being put up there with Rocksteady's Arkham City as one of the best superhero games of all time (there wasn't much competition), all eyes are on whether these wall-crawling heroes can do it again.

Almost as soon as the credits rolled on Marvel's Spider-Man, there was talk about a sequel. We got the expanded DLC in the form of 2020's Miles Morales, before Spider-Man 2 was officially announced in September last year - boasting a glossy trailer confirming Peter and Miles will be going against Venom.

What's The Latest On The Spider-Man 2 Release Date?

In a year that AAA releases like StarfieldHogwarts Legacy, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have all slipped into 2023, at least there's some positive news about where things are up to with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Now, Insomniac has confirmed development is still on track.

The official Insomniac Games Twitter tweeted that the team is making good progress and that we're still heading toward a 2023 release date. The problem is, we don't know when in 2023 we'll be swinging across the New York City skyline. We also haven't had anything from the game in way of trailers or gameplay since it was first announced.

As one salty gamer wrote, words are cheap. In what has become the norm, haters started slamming Insomniac. Someone said, "Unfortunately, words are cheap. You need to actually show something for people to have any level of confidence in you. Until you do, it's an entirely reasonable expectation that you are falling behind schedule." Another added, "This tweet will age badly."

Will There Be A Spider-Man 3?

For now, we have to take Insomniac's word for it. There's a chance the release date could slip, so it's for the best we haven't got a concrete one just yet. As the likes of Cyberpunk 2077 and God of War Ragnarok will tell us, locking yourself into a specific date can lead to some uncomfortable conversations further down the line.

By the time we get down to Spider-Man 2, it will be five years since we first stepped into this world. As for the dreams of Spider-Man 3, Marvel Entertainment’s Creative Vice President Bill Roseman compared Spider-Man 2 to Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back, which was the second part of George Lucas' original trilogy. Assuming the sequel is as popular as the original and Miles Morales, it's fair to assume there will at least be a trilogy to round off the story. Hold your horses though, we need to get a Spider-Man 2 release date first.
