Insomniac Games has us climbing the walls with excitement, with a tantalising tease about what's going on with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. In 2018, the studio best-known for Ratchet & Clank tried something different. Suiting up as Peter Parker and his vigilante alter ego, Marvel's Spider-Man was a verified hit that's held as one of the best superhero video games of all time.

While the end of Spider-Man teased more, there's been relatively little to go off (until now). There was the release of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales to tide us over, however, the game was criticised for being one large DLC that repeated mechanics and villains. Fans didn't really mind, but as the months go on, we need at least a hint of where the full-blown sequel is up to.

What's going on with Insomniac and Spider-Man 2?

Posting on Twitter, Insomniac Advanced Senior Animator, Alex Zemke, gave a potential update on the future of Web-Head. Following the recent release of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the Insomniac team said they needed a break. Zemke followed up his colleague's words and added, "For clarity: I did not work on Rift Apart. I worked on Miles Morales, and then moved on to [REDACTED]. Insomniac never sleeps! That's why the name!"

Of course, the City that Never sleeps is a reference to Spider-Man's setting AND the original game's DLC package. Spider-Man: The City that Never Sleeps had three distinct DLCs that included The Heist, Turf Wars, and Silver Lining. We doubt Zemke is referring to more DLCs for the first game or Miles Morales, suggesting he's hard at work on Spider-Man 2

When will Insomniac release Spider-Man 2?

It's important to remember Insomniac hasn't officially given Spider-Man 2 the green light yet. The end of the first game hinted at what's next with a tease of Norman Osborn's transformation into Green Goblin and a possible twist on the source material with Harry Osborn becoming Venom. Spider-Man polished off the Sinister Six and Kingpin, meaning we'll need an even bigger to lead the way in Spider-Man 2

In terms of when we could see Spider-Man 2, your guess is as good as ours. Insomniac first started work on Marvel's Spider-Man in 2014 and followed it with a 2018 release. It's plausible that the developer began tinkering on Spider-Man 2 as soon as the OG wrapped - which would put Spider-Man 2 on track for 2022.

Then again, let's not forget the team has been hard at work on Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Being practical, we'd be surprised if Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be swinging into our lives this side of 2024. Then again, let's keep the optimistic attitude of Peter Parker and hope the acclaimed developer will surprise us all.
