Grand Theft Auto V has been one of the strongest titles in terms of the replayability of the last few console generations, and a lot of that is thanks to GTA Online.

The chance for players to create their own character, buy their own apartment, and cause havoc on their own terms has offered fans what could be the best GTA experience ever.

Even though some are unsure about it and its practices (with its Shark Cards and casino being a point of controversy), it has still been immensely successful. But now, it sounds like GTA Online might not be safe.

GTA Online Has Been Compromised By Hackers

Despite its massive popularity, or perhaps as a result of it), GTA Online has finally succumbed to dangerous hackers using hugely invasive exploits on PC.

Popular leaker and GTA insider, Tez2, has been the first to report on the problem, stating that "new extreme exploits have appeared allowing cheaters to remotely add/remove/modify your stats and permanently corrupt your account."

They suggest playing the game with a firewall rule at the very least, but then follows up with the claim that "paid mods menus are racing as [I] speak to abuse [partial remote code execution] to the further extent."

The exploits are seemingly affecting player PCs, so they're clearly very serious - and they've genuinely put the game, and its players, at risk.

Rockstar Could Be Sued For GTA Online's Exploits

Tez2 suggests that the struggle against the exploits is ongoing at Rockstar, and that if the problem isn't fixed soon, the gaming giant could be subject to lawsuits from sufferers.

"I am pretty sure this is the top of the highest priority tasks internally right now," they says. "But the possibility of this turning into full-on RCE [arbitrary code execution] adds legal pressure now.

"I'm not a lawyer, but if this turns into full-on RCE, I think there could be fair grounds to sue Rockstar over this."

This isn't a good look for Rockstar, and it's worse news for players. When out there masquerading as criminals, make sure you stay safe.
