Well, we did it. After pouring hour after hour into the Lands Between, most of us have finally managed to best the Elden Lord and restore some sort of order to this rancid realm of gods and monsters. Elden Ring is a suitably epic game, and although there are hopes of a DLC, others are asking if we'll get a sequel.

It's been a labour of love from both fans and developers to get Elden Ring to where it is today - already being cited as one of the best games of all time. Famed author George R.R. Martin swapped the Seven Kingdoms for the Lands Between, with the Game of Thrones creator helping build the lore surrounding Elden Ring. However, someone else could be joining the party for a mysterious continuation.

Is Elden Ring 2 On The Way?

Speaking during a recent stream, author Brandon Sanderson claims that he could be in talks with Bandai Namco about doing something set in its world: "They are interested in perhaps doing something together, is what that says. I am as well, actually...I’ve been thinking, ‘what would I do if I did a Soulsborne sort of game?’ Obviously, I don't get to decide that, right? But I have it in the back of my head, so maybe you guys will hear something from me."

While Sanderson doesn't go into detail about what his pitch is, we assume it's some sort of novel - possibly an Elden Ring prequel that could expand the story before Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring. Given that the main game takes place in just one era of these tormented times, there's more than enough room for a whole series of books similar to Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire saga.

As for Sanderson, he's known for his work on the Skyward series and the supersized Cosmere world. More recently, he's hit the mainstream with Amazon's live-action The Wheel of Time adaptation. We'd like to point out that he doesn't actually mention an Elden Ring sequel, but that doesn't mean there isn't a small chance those at the top are already planning what comes next.

Alongside secret areas teasing more PvP, we know this isn't the end of the road for Elden Ring. Bandai Namco President and CEO, Yasuo Miyakawa, has already spoken about "expanding the brand," which many think could be a cue for an Elden Ring TV series or movie. Still, another game makes a lot of sense.

FromSoftware has a long history with Bandai Namco, and it's not like this is the first time we've seen a franchise from the developer. We already have three Dark Souls game, and there are continued hopes we could get a fourth or maybe even Bloodborne 2. Work on Elden Ring started back in 2017 (alongside Sekiro), and even if Sanderson signed up now, you probably wouldn't expect anything until at least 2027. Either way, the idea of the fantasy author putting his own spin on this wide world should have you excited.
