Elden Ring Stakes Of Marika Explained
Click to enlargeDuring the tutorial, you'll be introduced to Stakes of Marika, but no doubt the veterans amongst you will fly through and not pay it too much attention, or newbies will still be confused as to how exactly Stakes of Marika work. Thankfully, it's actually quite simple.
Your respawn point is usually set to the last Site of Grace you rested at, which also doubles as the only places you can fast travel to in the Lands Between. However, when you die, there's a chance you'll be offered the opportunity to respawn at a Stake of Marika.

These are small statues that act as respawn points, but only if you die within the vicinity of one. They're usually tactfully placed outside areas with lots of enemies, so you're able to respawn there then get back into the thick of the action as quickly as possible.
You don't need to activate a Stake of Marika or anything like that, so it may come as a surprise when the option to respawn at one becomes available, but you can be fairly sure it won't respawn you in any danger. Dying when you're not near one will just respawn you at the last Site of Grace you visited, as usual.
