Even this many hours into Elden Ring, we're still baffled at just how big the Lands Between actually are. As well as hacking and slashing your way to Stormveil Castle and beyond, this fantasy realm has proved to be stacked with Easter eggs. Warning, some Elden Ring spoilers ahead.

From the return of the villainous Patches to references to Griffith's torture mask in Berserk, we have a sword honouring The Game Kitchen's Blasphemous and Malenia's helmet being inspired by Farnese's Berserk outfit. If that wasn't enough, there are some crafty Game of Thrones eggs and even a nod to author George R.R. Martin.

What Is The George R.R. Martin Easter Egg?

As spotted by PC Gamer, it seems FromSoftware has honoured the legacy of Martin. Most of you will know the A Song of Ice and Fire overlord has a writer's contribution on Elden Ring. Instead of writing the main story of the Tarnished trying to save the kingdom, Martin was instead tasked with writing the world's complicated lore. Something we imagine was pretty easy considering he's the father of the Seven Kingdoms.

According to the site, all the Elden Ring demigods are named after George R.R. Martin. The core four of Godfrey, Rennala, Radagon, and Marika actually spell out his initials, while their children were named Godwyn, Morgott, and Mogh. For those of us struggling to remember who all the movers and shakers are, you can blame the apparent GRRM Easter egg for that.

If you're keeping up, Rennala and Radagon named their descendants Radahn, Rykard, Ranni, and Renna. Radagon's marriage to Marika gave us Malenia and Miquella, and finally, who could forget Godrick as the black sheep of the family? It might not be an easy spot, but it definitely seems a bit of GRRM is (quite literally) sprinkled across the Lands Between.

Are Their More George R.R. Martin Easter Eggs In Elden Ring?

This isn't the only nod to GRRM if you know where to look. Before he was building the wide world of Elden Ring, he was known for creating Westeros - which found great success in HBO's Game of Thrones adaptation. There's a big GoT Easter egg in the form of Elden Ring's Grafted Blade Greatsword. Eagle-eyed players have noticed it bears a striking resemblance to the spiny Iron Throne.

In an interview with the New Yorker, Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained how he placed important restrictions on Martin's writing and only wanted him to write snippets of the world's lore so as not to feel constrained. Since Elden Ring was first announced in 2019, the involvement of Martin has been hyped as a massive part of the title. So, it's great news that his legacy is being immortalised as part of what's already being called one of the best games of all time.
