Battlefield 2042 is offering its most dedicated support network disappointment after disappointment. The game has relentlessly optimistic fans, and for that, we commend them. Sadly, EA and DICE haven't given them much reason to care so much.

The game launched with such little content, the game lost credibility sharpish and the team's failure to come through with post-launch updates and crucial gameplay features means it's become a bit of a sham. Apparently, EA knows it. As yet another signifier that Battlefield 2042 hasn't performed for fans or the team who have made it, it looks like EA is actually holding back on some big information.

Why Is EA Withholding Battlefield 2042's Sales Numbers?

Well, that's suspicious. Supposedly, EA has been hanging onto the official sales numbers for Battlefield 2042. The general consensus is that it's because they're simply so low. EA CEO Andrew Wilson has gone on record stating that Battlefield 2042 "did not meet our expectations" in a sales call, but that's about all of the info on the game's sales that we've had.

It's curious, as we've had details for the likes of Call of Duty: Vanguard and Halo Infinite, making Battlefield's latest outing seem, if nothing else, a little scared.

It's telling of the serious lack of sales that the game has suffered in the face of so much competition - but it could imply something big. There's every chance change could be coming as the company gears up to make Battlefield 2042 free-to-play, something that has been rumoured to be on the way

Does This Mean Battlefield 2042 Is Going Free-To-Play?

Leakers have suggested that the move could be made to dampen the impact of little sales, and then play it off as though fans had never been charged in the years to come of its life cycle. While it's still hotly debated, it could be a very real possibility.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens here, but if one thing is for sure, it's that EA is really, really not happy with the successes (or lack thereof) of Battlefield 2042. So much potential, and so little pay-off. What a travesty.
