Blimey, are we still talking about Battlefield 2042? Since its launch, the troubled title has died a fiery and dramatic death. With fans hating how barebones and unfinished it felt, they've been jumping ship in favour of other Battlefield games, or even abandoning the series entirely.

It rubbed practically everyone up the wrong way, and considering its unbelievably huge promise, it's all the more disappointing to see how it stacked it. And now, one mode that fans loved has departed the game, maybe even for good.

What Happened To Battlefield 2042's 128 Player Breakthrough?

After the next update for Battlefield 2042 launches, players will no longer be able to join 128-player Breakthrough games.

DICE used its huge matches as a big selling point, and though players will still be able to jump into the Conquest playlist that also boasts the same player numbers, it's frustrating to see the biggest draw for many players be lost to the wind.

The attack-and-defend mode was cited as complete chaos, but it seemed to be by design. As it turns out, though, this wasn't DICE's intention. The end of the 128-player Breakthrough has been heralded by DICE itself... announcing the change in an update.

DICE "Removes Some Chaos" From Breakthrough

Explaining why 128 Breakthrough has been given the boot, DICE explained: "When reviewing Breakthrough, we noted that the 64 player version represented a more tactical experience. Reducing our player count here helps to remove some of the chaos from the experience, and in combination with the reductions that we have made to the number of available combat vehicles, it means players are better able to hold frontlines more effectively."

Though it may streamline Breakthrough as a mode, this is likely to rub players the wrong way - or rather, the players still left. It's a good idea to help Battlefield 2042's servers run a little better, and frankly, there might not be enough players left in the game to be impacted. It's a bit sad, but at least players will be offered the bliss of not actually caring.
