Demon's Souls Movie Rumoured To Be In The Works

The link between films and games is one linked with many chains, with Hollywood often combining with the likes of Super Mario and the world of superheroes. Many game titles have been created based on films, such as Spider-Man (2018, as Miles Morales is a video game interpretation comics, rather than films), the LEGO franchises in Harry Potter, Star Wars, Batman, and Lords of the Rings, and an array of James Bond titles such as the classic 007: Nightfire

However, it's not as common for films to be made based on the games, with roles reversed. Film franchises such as Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, and Hitman: Agent 47 have created films based on the stories portrayed in their video games equivalents, and it appears that publishing giant Sony is taking a leaf from such tree.

Rumours have surfaced that Sony is working on a film adaptation of FromSoftware's iconic opening instalment to the Souls franchise.

The title which was first released in 2009, before being remastered in 2020 to coincide with the release of the next-generation consoles, is set in Boletaria - a kingdom consumed by a dark aura called the 'Old One'. Players take on the role of a hero brought to Boletaria to kill its fallen king Allant and pacify the Old One. With a deep and intertwined lore to the game, there's much room for a film to be developed alongside the main quest.

Interestingly, the franchise's sequels such as Dark Souls are not directly connected, although the lore crosses in certain aspects. With the scope to cover both sides of the coin, Sony could attempt to pull content from both games or turn the film adaptations into a series too.

No official release or details have to be revealed, although I think we're all in agreement that this is the film I never knew we needed.
