Dead Island has a legacy unlike anything else in the gaming industry.

The game was heralded as one of the very best Zombie-themed open-world titles on the market upon reveal, with a cinematic trailer that still stands as one of the very best video game ads ever made.

But, the game simply fell flat on launch, comprised of a series of fetch quests that didn't embrace its massive potential. Yet, still, a sequel has been stuck in development hell for some time now, in hopes of making up for the misses of the past.

And now, it could be right around the corner.

An industry insider has suggested that the sequel to Dead Island may be with us much sooner than we could have expected.

On the Sacred Symbols podcast, host Colin Moriarty has hinted that he heard from an insider that Dead Island 2 could be getting a release in September or October this year "at the soonest," and could be getting a re-reveal very soon.

It's going to be interesting to see Dead Island make its return, especially after the first game made such a dull splash upon its launch all the way back in 2011.

The reason that Dead Island 2 has to get a "re-reveal" is because the game was actually announced back in 2014 after fans had a chance to digest the first game, but nothing ultimately came of the announcement.

Supposedly, the game was still in development, but nothing has been heard since its reveal, and only recently has it been suggested that the game is still on the way.

It's interesting to see how fans will react to the sequel, especially as most players simply didn't like the first title - but there's still a chance for the game to impress. Here's hoping it can actually pull through because frankly, we're not particularly excited to bury the series all over again.
