Out of all the wrestlers-turned-actors, Dave Bautista has perhaps been the most surprising at showing his diversity and quality on the big screen. Now, the big guy is fighting tooth and nail to get the part of Marcus Fenix in the planned Gears of War movie.

What Has Dave Bautista Said About A Gears Movie?

Reportedly, he's been so keen on starring in a Gears of War movie that he's pitched the film to executives by himself, and even turned down a role in Fast and Furious because he was so married to the idea of playing Marcus Fenix.

Speaking on the potential of a Gears film to Collider, Bautista stated: "I had a meeting at Universal and they wanted to talk to me about Fast and Furious. I said 'I'm not interested, let's talk about Marcus Fenix."

He continued: “I think they were a little put-off, but you get a shot, you know? I don’t mean to offend anyone, I’m not putting down anything else. I’m just saying, this [Gears of War] is way more interesting to me. I don’t want to pretend like I’m interested in something I’m not when there’s something I’m actually really excited about.”

Sadly, his enthusiasm wasn't enough to sell Universal on the film originally, but with the recent buzz of a Gears' movie picking up steam behind the scenes, the conversations may have continued more fruitfully.

Terry Crews has also expressed interest in portraying the character of Augustus "Cole Train" Cole alongside the wrestler, which may give studios more confidence in the project.

What Do We Know About The Gears Of War Film?

Most of our information about the feature comes from the man overseeing the Gears franchise, Rod Fergusson, who spoke to IGN a little under two years ago about the project. “In order for the movie to be successful, it has to be a great movie first and a Gears movie second,” he stated.

While this may feel like a sour take from fans of the games, many video game movies can struggle from trying to be too faithful of an adaption, and not all things that work in one medium, translate well to another.

The planned Gears of War movie still has no release date, and news has been sparse as of late, but the pandemic very well could have had the effect of forcing it back a few years.
