Racoon City might be a smouldering crater in the ground and the Baker Ranch is just a nightmarish memory, but that doesn't mean Capcom is quite ready to give up on its latest crop of Resident Evil games just yet. We're thankfully in a new era of the shuffling franchise, with recent Resident Evil titles being a much-needed return to form after RE6

And unless you've been locked up in the Hive, you'll know Capcom is planning on re-releasing 2017's Resident Evil 7, 2019's Resident Evil 2, and 2020's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. While we're left wondering where in the rotting world our promised Resident Evil Village DLC is, there's at least good news about Capcom's new-gen ports of these three chart-toppers.

What's Going On With The New-Gen Resident Evil?

There were worries that you wouldn't be able to transfer your save data over from the older Resi games when they're upgraded to their Gold Editions. Remembering that your average Resident Evil campaign is pretty chunky, not all of us want to be chased by Mr. X or see Ethan Winters get his head pummelled by Jack Baker all over again. Some want to pick up where they left off to experience what's new - not lose all their hard-earned trophies.

Capcom has confirmed that all saved data will transfer over to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series if you upgrade to the new-gen Resident Evil games. Yes, that even means your DLC data will be coming with you. With Capcom's update, we now know RE7's Banned Footage Vol. 1, Banned Footage Vol. 2, End of Zoe, and Not A Hero DLCs are coming along for the ride without starting again.

It's great news for those who've already stumped up for this acclaimed trilogy of games, especially as they're coming at no extra cost if you already have them in your library. Sticking with the perks, all three titles will get support for ray-tracing, high frame rates, and 3D audio, as well as Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers for PS5 owners.

When Are The New-Gen Resident Evil Ports Coming Out?

Unfortunately, there's no news on when the new-gen Resi ports will be crawling out of the grave. There are also complaints that the developer hasn't explained how save game transfers will work. Xbox fans are safe in the knowledge Smart Delivery will do it for you, but who could forget the whole debacle of Sony's convoluted methods that tend to download both PS4 and PS5 versions of games?

Although some us you are sure to be scoffing and saying "so what" that we're getting new-gen versions of these games, let's remember Resident Evil 7 came out in 2017. Technology has come on leaps and bounds - and with a whole new generation of consoles - we're excited to see the Baker Ranch receive an atmospheric makeover akin to Castle Dimitrescu. Elsewhere, there's still the long-delayed Resident Evil RE:Verse and continued rumours of a Resident Evil 4 remake, proving we're still caught in the scheming of Umbrella.
