Would you kindly... give us an update on Netflix's BioShock movie? It's been 15 years since Ken Levine delivered the first BioShock, so why have we never dived deep with a movie?

Following the first game, we had BioShock 2 in 2010, soared high in Columbia for BioShock Infinite in 2013, and are presumably going somewhere new in the upcoming BioShock 4. A movie could pull from anywhere, but now, it sounds like we're taking a dip into Rapture.

Andrew Ryan's underwater dystopia was the setting of the first two BioShock games and has become synonymous with its horror themes thanks to splicers and mad scientists.

We know Netflix is working on a BioShock movie with I Am Legend's Francis Lawrence, but after what feels like an eternity of waiting, the director has given us an update.

What's Going On With The BioShock Movie?

Speaking to Collider, Lawrence vowed to "break" the video game curse that struck down everything from the Dwayne Johnson-led DOOM to last year's Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

Lawrence gave an update on where Blade Runner 2049's Michael Green is up to, saying, "He's writing it, and he's in the middle of writing it right now. We already have our take, outline, and all that kind of stuff, so that's all done. He's now just actually writing."

As for what we can expect, Lawrence added: "Basically, me and Cameron [MacConomy] who works with me, and Michael [Green] are getting to do what we want to do, which is great."

Hyping a game-faithful adaptation, he added, "A lot of it is staying really true to the game itself, and we're talking to Take-Two [Interactive] and Ken Levine."

BioShock Movie Predicted Release Date

Video game adaptations are slowly turning their reputations around with the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog and Detective Pikachu. However, a lot of this is being confined to TV with The Witcher, HBO's The Last of Us, and Amazon's Fallout and God of War shows.

Netflix has become known for its original, and while most remember it for shows like Stranger Things or taking over from Channel 4 for Black Mirror, original movies like Bird Box have been massive. The streaming giant is making a push into video game movies, with an upcoming Gears of War adaptation also on the way. But what comes first?

BioShock is only in pre-production, and with no one formally announced for its cast, we'd imagine it'll be 2024 at the very earliest before Big Daddies will be lumbering onto our screens.
