Many - especially those who have been enduring the rollercoaster that is Battlefield 2042 - might say that the Battlefield franchise has become a little bit slow in recent years. Since the latest game's rocky launch, it's abundantly clear DICE isn't exactly quick on the draw when problems crop up.

Hell, they weren't even quick in development, as the game launched without voice chat and a functioning scoreboard. But now, it's clear they can be sharpish in one regard - as a hugely popular 'Zombies' mode made by fans has been pulled from the game incredibly quickly.

Why Did EA And DICE Remove Zombies Mode?

Battlefield 2042 has now removed the Zombie Survival mode from the game, as it was allowing players to seriously farm XP.

Senior Design Director of Ripple Effect Studios Justin Weibe has taken to Twitter to publicly announce that the map and mode have now been removed from the game.

"We've removed the Zombies mode and replaced with Gun Game", he says. "Hopefully we can fix it in the future and keep it in alignment with standard game progression. We've also tightened our review process to make sure this doesn't happen again."

It's clear that the Battlefield teams aren't so willing to allow players to garner XP faster than usual - but frankly, fans farming for XP is fairly commonplace.

What Are XP-Boosting Modes?

It's typical to see in games like Battlefield, but XP-boost games are everywhere. In the community-created tabs of shooters everywhere, you're bound to see servers that advertise a '30,000 XP BOOST' or something similar, attempting to abuse the game's XP system to boost your output by the end of the game.

Evidently, Battlefield isn't free of them, and the likes of Overwatch, Fortnite, and Team Fortress 2 are rife with the modes too. These titles have their own way of cracking down, like simply not offering any XP output from them, but they remain commonplace, attempting to lure players in with the promise of a few extra levels.

Either way, it's probably good news that Battlefield 2042 can cut off modes like this so quickly. If they were this fast on the other problems in the game, we might be playing the best FPS of the generation right now.
