To the surprise of many fans, an official Elden Ring manga has just been launched in Japan by Comic Walker, and it's available in twelve languages.

Elden Ring has proven to be one of the biggest game releases of the year and a global phenomenon, with the action RPG selling over 16 millions units as of writing this. Considering the behemoth success it has seen, it makes sense to explore other mediums outside of gaming to capitalise on the momentum. The game itself draws inspiration from a litany of manga series like Berserk, so it only makes sense that it gets its own series at some point.

The official Elden Ring manga is being developed by the FROM Software parent company Kadokawa, who also happen to be one of the biggest manga publishers in the world. The series, titled Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree, is being published on the website Comic Walker, where the first two issues can be read for free in twelve languages, with the third set to release shortly on September 19.

The series is headed up by Nikiichi Tobita, the mind behind A Cursed Sword's Daily Life, which is a comedy series set in a dark fantasy world. This may come as a surprise considering how grimdark the world of Elden Ring can be, but the manga also takes on more of a comedic direction, with lots of fourth-wall breaks and jokes about the nature of FROM Software games.

The Elden Ring manga loosely follows the plot of the game, but reimagined for the written medium. The official synopsis for the story is as follows:

"Aseo, a poor, Tarnished wretch, find himself cast out into Limgrave-naked, penniless, hopeless, and maidenless. His only hope in his harsh, unforgiving new home is a mysterious woman named Melina. She urges him to follow the guidance of grace to the Erdtree that looms over the Lands Between. But it won't be an easy road; a cast of colourful characters awaits Aseo along the way-Patches the Unthethered, Blaidd the Half-Wolf, Margit the Fell Omen, Godrick the Grafted, and of course, Ranni the Witch… With little but a loincloth between Aseo and certain death, he strikes out for the first stop on his quest: Stormveil Castle. Will he make it there, or will his journey end before it even begins?"

Due to the comedic twist it takes on the story of Elden Ring, it looks it will parody the journey of the Tarnished from maidenless and weak, to the powerful Elden Lord. While this manga is a nice surprise for fans of the game, most players are no doubt awaiting the announcement of the rumoured expansion, and with the Tokyo Game Show set to begin on September 15, an announcement we may get.
