Amouranth Just Bought $2M Of Activision Blizzard Stock

Kaitlyn "Amouranth" Siragusa has come under fire from some fans after revealing she bought $2 million worth of Activision Blizzard stock, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of many on account of the publisher's legal issues around their treatment of women in the workplace.

Activision Blizzard is the company behind some of the most popular games in the industry, including Call Of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, and World Of Warcraft. However, the company has been in turmoil since July 2021, when a number of Blizzard's employees accused the company of having a "frat boy culture." Numerous female staff members subsequently claimed they had suffered sexual harassment, and even assault, in the workplace. As a result, Blizzard was sued following the accusations and various members of staff were sacked. Although, the company was eventually bought by Microsoft, it did little to soften the hate as players called on others to boycott any games associated with Blizzard. 

So, it's no surprise that when Twitch streamer Amouranth revealed that she had invested $2 million into Activision Stock, she didn't get a warm reaction from everyone.

When Did Amouranth Invest In Activision Blizzard Stock?

On March 28, Amouranth revealed that she had invested $2 million into Activision Blizzard stock. Posting on Twitter, the 28-year-old said that she was expecting "roughly a 20% 'Uncorrelated' return" if the company's deal with Microsoft went smoothly. The risk appears to have paid off as, according to Google Finance, Blizzard's stock value is expected to catapult throughout the day, as of writing. 

In recent times, Amouranth has been very open with fans about her stock investments which have helped her to bring in huge amounts of cash. However, she has landed herself in hot water at times. For example, she sparked a dispute among her fans after revealing she bought bulks of Google stock as its value plummeted due to the ongoing conflict between Russian and Ukraine.

Why Did Amouranth Buy Activision Blizzard Stock?

When it comes to Amouranth, nothing really surprises us anymore given her wild and occasionally random investments. However, explaining why she decided to invest such a mind-blowing amount of money into Blizzard, Amouranth said: "I'm going for a board seat with the aim to de-objectify women, turn them back from bowls of fruit into women."

However, this didn't seem like a good enough reason for some Twitter users who saw the purchase as inappropriate given the ongoing controversy surrounding Activision Blizzard. As one fan stated: "A sexist company being bought by an evil company. Sure, money is money, but not when it's blood money. I wouldn't support either company. Neither in deed nor in name." 

For some, Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard may have helped move the publisher past their controversial near-past. However, it's clear from Amouranth's latest announcement that is still a sensitive subject for many.
