Over the years, we've had some weird and wonderful racing games, with the likes of Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart, and Crash Team Racing succeeding where Kirby's Air RideGarfield Kart, and 007 Racing have failed. If you thought we were done with out-there racing ideas, what about bringing the formula to Bloodborne?

It's been seven years since FromSoftware released Bloodborne on the PlayStation 4, and while it's since become known as one of the developer's best (and hardest) games, the realm of Yharnam has gone pretty quiet. To celebrate its anniversary, there's now an unofficial spin-off on the way. Racers, start your engines. It's time for Bloodborne Kart.

What is Bloodborne Kart?

If you've been keeping up with the Bloodborne community, you'll undoubtedly have heard of Bloodborne PSX, which was a fan-made demake that turned the 2015 game into a retro classic you'd find on the PS1. Not content with the runaway success of Bloodborne PSX - and it earning over 100,000 downloads in its first 24 hours - the team is back with Bloodborne Kart

Lilith Walther is one of those who worked on PSX, and posting on Twitter, explained how Bloodborne Kart has come to be. They originally posted footage in April 2021, which turned out to be an elaborate April Fool's joke. But fans went wild, and seeing a gap in the market, Walther has made it real.

The 2021 footage showed racers taking part in the Pthumerian Cup, with the same pixelated pleasure as the Bloodborne demake. Just imagine a boss race against Father Gascoigne, or what about taking on Patches the Spider? Looking at how faithfully Bloodborne PSX recaptured the horrors of the original, we've got high hopes for Bloodborne Kart

When Will Bloodborne Kart Release?

Posting on Twitter, Lilith said Bloodborne Kart will be "coming out as soon as it's ready!" We're not sure whether development actually started alongside the April Fool's joke, but given the state of the recent trailer release, it could be closer than we think. The Bloodborne demake took around 13 months to complete, so keep your eyes out for an update on Bloodborne Kart

Sadly, a fan continuation of Bloodborne might be all we have to go on for now. Although there have been continued talks about a new-gen Bloodborne remake in the vein of Bluepoint Games' 2020 remake of Demon's Souls, it's nowhere to be found. Elsewhere, FromSoftware has clearly moved onto bigger things, with all its effort seemingly focussed on Elden Ring. After creating Bloodborne Kart, here's hoping Lilith and the team move onto an Elden Ring demake or maybe even Elden Kart. Racing around as Alexander the Pot Friend or the Turtle Pope needs to happen.
