Riot Games is finally bringing another Controller Agent to the VALORANT roster, this time in the form of Harbor. The brand new Agent is set to kick off Episode 5 Act 3 of VALORANT, and should hopefully shake up the competitive meta in a big way. Let's dive deeper into the water-based abilities of Harbor and see how he stacks up against the other VALORANT Agents.

VALORANT Harbor Abilities

First up, let's take a look at the abilities that players can wield while playing as Harbor:

High Tide (E) - EQUIP a wall of water. FIRE to send the water forward along the ground. HOLD FIRE to guide the water in the direction of your crosshair, passing through the world, spawning a wall along the water’s path. ALT FIRE while bending to stop the water early. Players hit are SLOWED.

Cove (Q) - EQUIP a sphere of shielding water. FIRE to throw. ALT FIRE to underhand throw. Upon impacting the ground, spawn a water shield that blocks bullets.

Cascade (C) - EQUIP a wave of water. FIRE to send the wave rolling forward and through walls. RE-USE to stop the wave from moving further. Players hit are SLOWED.

Reckoning (X) - EQUIP the full power of your Artifact. FIRE to summon a geyser pool on the ground. Enemy players in the area are targeted by successive geyser strikes. Players caught within a strike are CONCUSSED.

According to Alexander Mistakidis, a designer at Riot Games, Harbor is being introduced to try and compete with keen Viper players. Before Harbor, Viper was the only Controller character who could create vision blocks without entering an astral state that views the whole map. Now, Harbor joins Viper as a hero who can create sight-line blocks using just his aim. Hopefully, this should open the doors to some more creative gameplay opportunities from skilled players.

The key to mastering Harbor is knowing when to use each of his abilities. As an Attacker, his Cascade ability is excellent at letting a whole team push into sites. Not only does it block crucial lines of sight, but it also slows down enemies and backs them into a corner. You can use it to catch enemies off guard and earn a few easy frags.

On the surface, Cove looks like it acts in the same way as a smoke. However, bear in mind that the water sphere that Cove creates is bulletproof. This makes it an excellent ability to use while you're trying to defuse the spike as it will protect you or a teammates for a few seconds. It will also pay to dip in and out of the smoke as cover, preventing enemies from landing any body shots on you if you stick to the edges.

High Tide creates a huge wall, but the rate at which it curves is relatively slow in comparison to some other heroes. It can be tempting to use this ability early in a game, but it's best saved for later on and in more open spaces to truly make the most of it. Remember, the wall can pass through geometry, too.
