The Pokemon GO electric event, titled Crackling Voltage, is about to be here, introducing players to various forms of specialised content for a limited period of time. Pokemon GO has been going strong for several years now, and part of that success is due to Niantic adding new events every season that freshens up the gameplay.

These limited-time events are great opportunities to get a hold of some specific Pokemon types that you may have been waiting to collect, and even opens the door to grabbing rare shiny Pokemon. Pokemon GO Electric Event Start Date

The Pokemon GO electric event is set to run from January 25 to February 8, but different content will be phased in and out during this period, meaning you'll need to play every day to engage with all the new content.

The entire event is called Crackling Voltage, and will be focused on electric-type Pokemon, featuring new wild encounters, field research tasks, raids, and a Team GO Rocket takeover that will see a new Shadow Pokemon. Below, we'll cover all the new content and how long it's expected to be part of the event for.

Wild Encounters

From January 27 to February 5, various electric-type Pokemon will appear more frequently in the wild. Some of them will also have the chance to be shiny, with the Shiny Helipoptile appearing for the first time.

  • Grimer (shiny possibility)
  • Electrike (shiny possibility)
  • Stunky
  • Blitzle (shiny possibility)
  • Ferroseed (shiny possibility)
  • Helioptile (shiny possibility)
  • Grubbin (shiny possibility)
  • Beldum (shiny possibility)
  • Dedenne (shiny possibility)

Raids

There are some one-star,-three-star, five-star, and mega raids for players to take part in, allowing you to collect some of the more electric-type Pokemon. This also sees the introduction of the Shiny Tapu Koko for the first time.

One-Star Raids

  • Alolan Grimer (shiny possibility)
  • Shinx (shiny possibility)
  • Bronzor (shiny possibility)
  • Klink (shiny possibility)
  • Helioptile (shiny possibility)

Three-Star Raids

  • Venomoth
  • Galarian Weezing (shiny possibility)
  • Jolteon
  • Mawile (shiny possibility)

Five-Star Raids

  • Tapu Koko (shiny possibility) - Appears from January 25 to February 1
  • Registeel (shiny possibility) - Appears from February 1 to February 8

Mega Raids

  • Mega Aerodactyl (shiny possibility) - Appears from January 25 to February 1
  • Mega Gengar (shiny possibility) - Appears from February 1 to February 8

Eggs

New Pokemon can hatch from 7 km eggs for those of you wanting to collect some baby Pokemon.

  • Galarian Stunfisk (shiny possibility)

Field Research Task Encounters

New Pokemon will be available to encounter when completing Field Research tasks.

Starting on February 1, the new Team GO Rocket takeover will begin, running until February 5. This introduces a special research story that sees players hunting down Giovanni for Shadow Registeel, and this story can be completed up until the end of Season 9 on March 1.

As a bonus for this part of the event, Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokeStops for you to challenge. There are also new Mysterious Component rewards for any Field Research tasks completed during this portion of the event.

Shadow Pokemon

You can defeat Team GO Rocket members to rescue new Shadow Pokemon.

Eggs

There are new Pokemon which can hatch from 12 km eggs. You can earn these eggs by defeating Team GO Rocket leaders.
