Elden Ring Boss Locations: Main And Optional Bosses
Before getting into the Elden Ring boss locations, we have a brief explainer of the choices players have. Across the game's central story, you have just 14 main bosses - although not all have to be defeated to beat the game. However, in total there are over 200 bosses that you can come up against. And while record-breaking Elden Ring speed runs are all the craze at the moment, you'll want to spend your time going through some of the optional bosses along the way. Not only will they reward you with runes to level up your character, but they can also at times come with game-changing weapons, Talisman, Ashes, Incantations and more. The more time you spend on the optional bosses, the better luck you'll have taking on some of the later bosses.
However, you should also keep in mind that to progress through to some of the later areas, you will have to defeat certain mandatory bosses, like the Elden Ring Margit boss fight.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Limgrave
First up we have the starting area called Limgrave. This is where you will spend most of your opening hours with the game, and there are a plentiful 28 bosses to work your way through, which include two mandatory fights.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Weeping Peninsula
Just to the south of Limgrave we have the Weeping Peninsula, which has an additional ten Elden Ring boss locations, all of which are optional. This area is easy to completely bypass, considering the unclear extent of the expanding Elden Ring map.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Liurnia Of The Lakes
After defeating Godrick The Grafted you can make your way through to Liurnia of the Lakes. This can be where a lot of players lose their way, so be sure to check out our guide on what to do after Godrick in Elden Ring. Liurnia of the Lakes is made up of 36 Elden Ring boss locations, with two of those being main bosses, and the rest optional.
- You might need a hand with the final boss of this area, so be sure to check out our Elden Ring Rennala boss fight guide.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Altus Plateau
For this region, you will access it through the Grand Lift of Dectus in Liurnia of the Lakes, which will ascend the Altus Plateau, which is made up of 21 bosses, of which none are mandatory.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Caelid Wilds
Next up we have a meaty 27 Elden Ring boss locations in the Caelid Wilds. This region can be accessed quite early on through the teleporting trap in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins in Limgrave, however, it can be quite a dangerous area for low levelled players.

Elden Ring Boss Locations: Underground Layers
As if the map wasn't big enough, Elden Ring also has a number of underground areas, which of course, are filled with their own Elden Ring boss locations. These are accessed in different areas across the map, so you will have to fight your way through a good portion of the game to access some of these.
First up is the Ainsel River and Lake of Rot, which is accessed via Renna's Rise in Liurnia of the Lakes.
Then we have the Deeproot Depths, which you will only be able to access through Nokron The Eternal City.
And lastly, we have Siofra River and Mohgwyn Palace, which are the easiest of the lot to access, as they can be accessed via the Siofra River Well, just north of the Minor Erdtree in Limgrave.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Mountaintops Of The Giants
Getting into some really special late-game areas, we have the Mountaintops of the Giants, which is home to the Fire Giant main boss, and an additional 21 Elden Ring boss locations.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Roundtable Hold
The Roundtable Hold is initially thought to be a neutral safe space in the game, but we should all know by now that in a FromSoftware game, nowhere is truly safe. You'll find both Ensha of the Royale Remains and Mad Tongue Alberich here.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Crumbling Faram Azula
Nearing the end we have the Crumbling Faram Azula, which is home to ten Elden Ring boss locations, including Malekith, The Black Blade.
Elden Ring Boss Locations: Leyndell, Capital Of Ash
Lastly, albeit accessible earlier, we have Leyndell Capital of Ash, the home to the three final bosses of the game. It is here that you will face off against Sir Gideon Ofnir, Godfrey, and Radagon.
Those are all of the available Elden Ring boss locations, so clearly players have a lot to get through. If you are feeling too underpowered to go up against some of these mighty foes, then head on over to our guide on how to get 70k runes in Elden Ring.
