Pour Arthur Morgan a healthy measure of tequila because it sounds like Red Redemption 2 could be heading to Mexico. While the arid desert of New Austin sits on the Mexican border, Rockstar Games regularly locks you out of Mexico - unless you're sneaky.

Despite recent accusations that Rockstar has abandoned Red Dead - and an irate #SaveRedDeadOnline campaign - the acclaimed developer could be about to surprise us all. Although there's confirmation Red Dead Redemption 3 is out there on the horizon, that doesn't mean we should leave behind its predecessors just yet.

Is Red Dead Redemption 2 Getting A Mexico Expansion?

Over on the Red Dead Reddit u/itsKNIGHTMARE noted that there's a lot more plant life around Nuevo Paraíso. For those who don't know, Nuevo Paraíso represents the edge of the map, with the Mexican border being largely out of bounds. The OP explained, "Apparently the rumours were true. I breached into Mexico before and there wasn’t nearly this much detail with the foliage [if I recall correctly]. There also weren’t any palm trees."

Not everyone was convinced. One critic said there's no chance it will be a single-player DLC. Then again, someone else reminded us, "Cool thing about rdr2 is that rockstar games actually regularly updates singleplayer even years after release unlike gta 5 where they only update online." Maybe this is why Rockstar has been so sluggish with adding content to RDO - it's being saved for the main game.

It would be strange if Rockstar randomly dropped a massive Mexican update, but remember, this could be part of that rumoured remake/remakes of 2010's Red Dead Redemption and its sequel. Ironically, this isn't the first we've heard of Red Dead opening up the Mexican border.

Can You Get Into Mexico In Red Dead Redemption 2?

Despite us previously saying you can't play around in Mexico in RDR2, you can glitch inside. YouTuber ZakCoxTV explained how players can access Mexico and the first game's Presido by riding your horse toward a specific area. There isn't much to do, and moving too far off the grid will see you die, but it's teased there were at least plans for an expansion.

Modders also took the idea of a Mexico map into their own hands and created a huge Mexico expansion for Arthur to explore. Sadly, some new plants don't exactly confirm an official DLC from Rockstar. We waited a whopping eight years between RDR and RDR2, so we're guessing that Rockstar and its ravenous fan base is facing something of a Mexican standoff when it comes to making this duo a trilogy.
