As a standout character in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, fans were pleased to see John Cena's Peacemaker (rightly) get a spin-off series of its own. A peek into the DC Universe through the lens of the hyperactive Gunn proved to be a recipe for success, while a series starring Cena's slave-to-freedom hero Peacemaker was just as much of a treat.

But now that we've digested the wholehearted adventure of Peacemaker and got to understand a little more of what's going on beneath that chromed helmet, fans are asking about Peacemaker Season 2. Here's everything we know about the hero's comeback with the Peacemaker Season 2 release date, cast, story, and more.

Is There A Peacemaker Season 2 Release Date?

There's no concrete Peacemaker Season 2 release date, but we can make an educated guess based on the show's filming slate.

Gunn himself revealed he'll begin work on the live-action series once he's finished Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Continuing in a reply to a tweet asking about Peacemaker, Gunn promised shooting will begin in 2023.

This was back in August, so things could have changed since then. Presuming they haven't, we can probably expect the show to come out in late 2023 or early 2024 on HBO Max. Like with the release of Season 1, the Peacemaker Season 2 release date might be a little later in territories like the United Kingdom.

With no confirmation about the Peacemaker Season 2 cast just yet, it's hard to tell who will join the show. With most of them making it out of Season 1 alive, we'd be surprised if we didn't see masses of the original cast return.

Of course, the show is nothing without its leading man John Cena, and Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee, are all presumed to be making their return to the show. Frankly, it wouldn't feel like Peacemaker without them.

Given the apparent death of Chukwudi Iwuji's Murn, he's looking a little less likely. Finally, Robert Patrick's White Dragon might've kicked the bucket, but given then he continues to haunt Peacemaker, his deadbeat dad is probably going to return.

Spoilers for Peacemaker season one lie ahead! Don't say we didn't warn you...

Knowing James Gunn, the story of Peacemaker could sway in so many ways. There are a few narrative points left at the end of the first season that are sure to be tidied up in Season 2. For starters, there's Peacemaker's guilt after killing his father, manifesting in a version of him almost stalking him and causing him to lash out in even more violent ways - so it looks like he's got a lot of daddy issues to work through yet.

Plus, with Amanda Waller now exposed, there's every chance the tyrannical overlord of the Suicide Squad could come swinging back for vengeance. If that's not enough, Gunn had already promised another Suicide Squad spin-off, telling Deadline's Hero Nation Podcast, "I can't say anything. It is connected to this universe, and I don't think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker. It won't be as much a comedy as Peacemaker."

We won't know what's going on with Peacemaker Season 2 until production gets on the way, but we're banking on the next season being just as spectacular as the first. Here's hoping Cena is ready to flex his muscles as the hot-headed brute.
