Creepshow Game Announced By AMC And Shudder
The spooky season is upon us, and as we start planning our Halloween costumes for 2022, the entertainment industry is rife with plenty of tricks... and a few treats. Alongside movies like Hocus Pocus 2 and Halloween Ends, we're expecting the usual frightening favourites from Fortnite and Call of Duty's Halloween celebrations.
Coming further down the line, we've got news that AMC and Shudder have partnered on a Creepshow video game. The fan-favourite horror anthology is making the leap, and in an era that everything from Killer Klowns from Outer Space to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Creepshow could offer something exciting.
What Is The Creepshow Video Game?
According to Variety, a Creepshow video game based on the revived TV series is on the way. AMC has partnered with publisher DreadXP and developer DarkStone Digital to bring the franchise into a new medium. It follows in the footsteps of George A. Romero's 1982 movie, its sequels, and Grego Nicotero's Shudder series.
Creepshow will emulate "Creepshow's anthology format and feature several self-contained horror stories across different types of gameplay genres and tones." You have a bit of a wait on your hands though, as it'll arrive on multiple platforms in 2024. Several indie developers are working on the project, which explains the episodic formula. When it comes to DarkStone Digital, the dev has been releasing indie horrors since 2018, and most recently, delivered The Mortuary Assistant.
It's unknown who else will be joining Creepshow's roster, but we're told a full list of contributing game developers will be confirmed "at a later date." Speaking about Creepshow, Creative Director Brian Clarke said: "I'm extremely excited to be a part of such a fun project. I've always loved Creepshow's format, and the idea of driving the cohesion of multiple perspectives on horror is really compelling to me. I feel honored to have been asked to be a part of this. I can't wait to jump in and bring the best I can to such a great IP."
When Will Creepshow Season 4 Air?
Click to enlargeAlthough Creepshow was once a cult classic, it's hit the mainstream thanks to the Shudder series. In 2019, Universal announced that the IP would be part of its Halloween Horror Nights celebrations, while the live-action series was recently renewed for Season 4. Hyping the Creepshow universe, Nicotero told Variety, "Hot on the heels of the Skybound Comic release this summer and wrapping post-production on Season 4, I feel like this is an opportunity to celebrate the genre with horror fans around the world in a way that takes us through a myriad of experiences."
There's currently no release date for Creepshow Season 4, but it's expected to air at some point in 2023. As for the Creepshow video game, we're excited to see where it could go. We're getting some serious Telltale vibes, and while the episodic developer has since closed its doors, the legacy lives on with Gearbox's New Tales from the Borderlands. Imagine that with a horror twist, and we guess you've got Creepshow.
