Cory Barlog Speaks Out About New God Of War Ragnarok Delay
What would 2022 be without a good game delay? While it was once Cyberpunk 2077 remembered for being the game that many thought would never see the light of day, this year has seen everything from Hogwarts Legacy to Breath of the Wild 2, Starfield to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League slip from their intended releases. Now, some claim God of War Ragnarok is next... again.
Back in 2018 - when things seemed simpler and delays were few and far between - Sony Santa Monica released God of War as a soft reboot of the acclaimed adventure series. The PlayStation exclusive went on to break records and clear the awards scene, so it's safe to say there's a lot riding on God of War Ragnarok as the concluding chapter of Kratos' Norse mythology.
Is A God Of War Ragnarok Delay On The Way?
Cory Barlog was the director on 2018's God of War, and although he's been replaced by Eric Williams for Ragnarok, he's still close to production. When Barlog tweeted asking fans to "be cool," it rattled the internet amidst fears his cryptic message was hinting at a God of War Ragnarok delay.
Putting fears at rest, Barlog said the tweet wasn't aimed at anything (or anyone) in particular. The 'be cool' is presumably asking everyone to be patient as Kratos prepares to swing his Leviathan Axe back into our lives. Some still didn't believe Barlog, but as someone else was adamant a delay is on the way, Barlog was equally adamant this isn't the case.
In all likelihood, Barlog is calling back to the toxic fandom that's been levelling hate at devs since Ragnarok was first delayed last June. If the team receiving death threats wasn't enough, there was a grim incident where a female member of staff was sent nudes to try and coerce a release date out of her. Barlog was among the many who called out this gross behaviour.
When Will God Of War Ragnarok Release?

We've already covered how this puts it on track to clash with Call of Duty: Warzone 2, but as discussed, they're two completely different titles going for different corners of the industry. Unless something catastrophic happens, Sony Santa Monica looks pretty solid on delivering on its promised release.
God of War Ragnarok is a goliath much like Kratos himself. Some claim it's that big, it's even causing other developers to move their games. Even as we near the Ragnarok release, we're still plagued by rumours that it'll be delayed. Thankfully, things seem to be going well, meaning we'll get a cross-gen release on PS4 and PS5. With a PlayStation Showcase reportedly on the horizon, we'll hopefully get to see a little more of what's going on under the lid of 2022's gaming giant.
